Simple Steps to Help you Declutter Your Life

• Every one of us spring-cleans our home at least once a year. We see this as the opportunity to clean thoroughly and have a clear out. Once done we have created a clean space with extra room to buy new things perhaps improve our home.

• Everyone hoards possessions to some extent - there may be sentimental or practical reasons why you think you need to hang on to some object from your past. Have you ever asked yourself if it really serves a purpose to keep it?

• Over the course of your life you will accumulate much baggage. This excess baggage could be physical, emotional, spiritual or mental but, as with all heavy loads, carrying it with you could slow you down and stop you from moving forward in your life. You past baggage could stop you from trying new things, visiting new places, from changing your job or your home or it could stop you from meeting new and exciting people and allowing new experiences into your life.

• You don’t have to wait for spring in order to declutter your life – if you feel you need a fresh start then it is the perfect time to throw out the old ready to embrace the new so that you feel refreshed and in control.

PHYSICAL DECLUTTER

• Clearing out rubbish can be an enjoyable and cathartic experience. If you need a kick-start then give yourself an incentive to begin the process (perhaps start with a small cupboard) and build on that intention. The mere fact that you have started will raise your positive vibrations. When you have completed each task reward yourself on a job well done and plan the next. To begin take these easy steps:

1. Do state your intention to have that good clear out and commit yourself to it.

2. Do set yourself a target but make sure it is an achievable one.

3. Do give yourself an incentive to get the job done.

4. Do start with the easiest space first. This will make an immediate impact on your surroundings and it is a good incentive to keep you going onto the next job.

5. Do acknowledge the emotions that you will feel as you come across articles that are long on memories. You will have to consign these possessions to the rubbish pile. These things were part of your past, but the past is history and you need to make way for your future. You must let them go!

6. Do remember that it’s fine to keep things of a sentimental value but, if you do, display them rather than hide them away or they just become clutter again! If you can’t bear to see them out in the open then you need to recognise that you have some unresolved issues surrounding that time in your life and you need to try to work these through.

7. Do find ways to make the work fun.

8. Don’t stop until the job is finished.

9. As soon as you have finished do get rid of your things immediately so there is no time for second thoughts. Take them to a charity shop, have a car boot sale or take a trip to the local dump.

10. Don’t feel guilty.

EMOTIONAL DECLUTTER • A large amount of emotional clutter in our lives is gathered from other people’s ideas and expectations for us. Our parents, partners, children, friends and work colleagues all make emotional demands on us. This emotional clutter can cause blockages in our energy centres and this, in turn, can affect our bodies and minds. Our solar plexus chakrum is connected to our mental chakrum. This is why so many people experience stomach problems when they have things on their mind.

• The chakra energy needs to flow freely in order to maintain our physical and mental health. The emotional clutter of unreleased emotional pain can have a detrimental effect on the body’s organs, especially the stomach and lungs. For instance, you may suffer from sluggish circulation or from tense, nervous headaches.

To begin take these easy steps:

1. Do take up some form of physical activity to raise your energy levels and kick-start your circulation. It doesn’t have to be the gym; a brisk walk in the country can do wonders for your emotional health.

2. Don’t be judgemental about yourself – you are only human and you will make mistakes. Learn to love yourself.

3. Do make your peace with those people who have upset or hurt you. If you can’t bring yourself to do this face to face then do it in your head or you could write them a letter telling them exactly what you think but, instead of posting it, burn it. This is an extremely cathartic exercise, the release of emotional burdens is extremely liberating.

4. Do understand that everyone has their limitations – even you. If you find it hard to accept them in yourself and other then at least try to tolerate them. 5. Do enjoy some quality time with your partner or a friend – there is no excuse for neglecting those around you.

6. Do explore why you feel the way that you do about certain people or issues, analyse your answers and find a solution.

7. Do become more organised in your physical life, this way you will avoid feeling of guilt if things aren’t done as you promised.

8. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

9. Don’t be afraid to say NO!

10. Do take responsibility for your own life and make others take responsibility for theirs: regain control of your emotions.

MENTAL DECLUTTER • Mental clutter is caused when we have too much going on in our lives at one time. We get stressed and then become unable to focus and prioritise. Follow these easy steps:

1. Make a ‘To Do’ list for each day but remember to make it manageable. Lists are handy tools for many areas of your life.

2. Do pencil some ‘me time’ into your diary for each day.

3. Do keep your body fit by eating well and exercising; a healthy body equals a healthy mind.

4. Do deep breathing exercises to oxygenate your brain and blood stream.

5. Don’t be a slave to the telephone; you don’t have to answer it immediately it rings – switch on the answer-phone and listen to the message when you have time.

6. Do keep your brain fit, read books and magazines, do puzzles, enrol on an adult education course to learn a new skill or a second language. Improve your mental faculties by creating and using memory techniques. Medical studies suggest that keeping your brain active helps to protect against dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

7. Do choose one day a week when you can take a complete break and do no work at all.

8. Do be confident in all your dealings, practice being assertive and learn to say NO and mean it.

PSYCHIC CLUTTER

• Our psychic faculty is facilitated by our subconscious mind. Psychic clutter can be the result of blockages brought about through negative experiences, in a past relationship or perhaps in a past life. These experiences become buried deep within the subconscious mind. As we get older we are also more aware of our own mortality and we subconsciously fear death as we begin to lose the people we love the most.

• You may get a glimpse of what is worrying you through your dreams. Negative energy sticks to your auric layers causing holes, blocking the chakra energy points and stopping the free-flow of the cleansing subtle energies through the chakra points into the Meridian system and the body’s organs. 1. Old objects, antique furniture and jewellery can sometimes retain the vibrational energy of previous owners. Get rid of anything that gives off negative energy or that reminds you of past hurts.

2. Do try to kick any habits of an addictive nature such as smoking to allow your outer auric layers to repair. Do try and keep your aura strong and bright and remember to keep yourself cloaked in a protective layer.

3. Do meditate regularly.

4. Do treat yourself to an occasional aromatherapy or reflexology treatment. 5. Do introduce colour into your life through your clothes, your environment and in the foods that you eat.

6. Do develop your psychic abilities and learn to trust your intuition.

7. Do send up your thoughts to your spirit guide/s, your companion angel, your friends and loved ones in spirit – you need never feel alone.

8. Believe in magyck and magyck will happen. Finally, remember that one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to avoid holding on to things from the past be they people, objects or emotions. Turn your face towards the future and believe.
